Bio-PT is an open-source 3D bioprinter designed to make bioprinting more accessible to students, researchers, and innovators. Developed in Libya by Dr.Islam Salama with affordability and sustainability in mind, Bio-PT utilizes recycled materials and commonly available components to reduce costs and environmental impact.
Features of Bio-PT
- Affordable Design: Built from recycled materials such as CD-ROM drive motors and 3D-printed components.
- Indirect Syringe Pump System: Reduces mechanical weight on the printer’s X and Z axes for better precision.
- Open Source: Fully available on GitHub, allowing users to adapt and improve the design.
About Bio-Marlin Firmware
Bio-Marlin is a modified version of Marlin 1.1.9 firmware, optimized specifically for bioprinting applications. It includes advanced control settings for extruder speed and temperature, making it compatible with materials such as hydrogels. Bio-Marlin also removes unnecessary features from the original firmware to simplify its use for bioprinting tasks.
Access the Project
Bio-PT offers a straightforward and cost-effective solution for those looking to explore bioprinting, whether for academic purposes or early-stage prototyping. It provides a practical resource for the bioprinting community, especially for those with limited access to commercial systems.
