Nanochon has announced the first surgical implantation of its Chondrograft™ implant as part of the company’s First-in-Human clinical study.

The procedure was performed at The Panama Clinic in Panama City by Dr. Juan Osorio and Dr. Emilio Tufiño, specialists in regenerative sports medicine. According to Nanochon, initial follow-up and feedback from the surgical team have been positive and consistent with expectations.

Chondrograft is a 3D-printed implant being developed for the treatment of cartilage defects. The technology is designed to provide a porous, mechanically supportive structure intended to encourage tissue integration and cartilage regeneration following implantation.

The first procedure represents an important transition for Nanochon from preclinical development into human clinical evaluation. The company has spent several years advancing the implant through engineering development, preclinical testing, manufacturing scale-up, and regulatory preparation.

Nanochon plans to use data generated through the First-in-Human study to support the development of a future pivotal clinical study and subsequent regulatory submissions in the United States and other markets.

The Panama clinical site is also part of the company’s broader strategy to accelerate patient enrollment and expand the clinical evidence supporting Chondrograft. Nanochon reported that the clinical team was able to identify, enroll, and treat the first patients shortly after the site became active.

For the broader biofabrication and regenerative medicine industry, the milestone provides another example of an additively manufactured implant progressing from laboratory development into clinical use.

While significant clinical evaluation remains ahead, the first human implantation represents a meaningful step in determining whether Chondrograft can ultimately provide a new treatment option for patients with cartilage injuries.
